Cardiovascular Diet
Cardiovascular disease is a general term that refers to diseases of the heart and blood vessels such as:
- Coronary heart disease
- Stroke
- Peripheral vascular disease
- Aortic disease
Cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of death and premature death in the UK. There are several risk factors for cardiovascular disease:
- High blood pressure
- Smoking
- High blood cholesterol levels
- Diabetes
- Being overweight
- Lack of exercise
- Family history
- Ethnic background
Many of the deaths associated with cardiovascular disease could be prevented by making lifestyle changes such as increasing physical activity, stopping smoking, eating a healthy (cardioprotective) diet and achieving a healthy body weight.
